In this year’s Austin City Limits contest, I still have four days until voting is closed to the public. As of right now, I am about 465 votes away from making the first cut. With your help, I’d like to try something amazing. I still want to try to make that first cut (the top 100). Unrealistic? Un-attainable? Impossible? I need your help! Tell your friends, vote everyday, and support the music that speaks to you. In an era of over-produced sound, generic chord progressions, and image over ability, I want to create something different. Help me get my music out there!

Vote at:
http://www.delllounge.com/soundandjury/?id=e20493b1-5496-4e04-9608-b9ad5baf947b

Thanks so much for your support through this, I’ve done way better than I ever thought I would! Your votes are some of the best compliments that you can give me. I promise this will be the last time I bug you to vote.

Hope you have a good week, and as always, thanks for listening,

You may no longer be defined as a "student", but can now be crowned a "Graduate", which has nicer social context.

Then - all of a sudden - I become a lot less special - I HIGHLY doubt that !

Your "twin" probably didn't do the title proud, as (we all know) there can be only one ! You seem to be keeping a low profile and I read below that you are working on your Masters. What area is it in? I didn't realize that there were study courses for being a vampire slayer! Somehow, those courses slipped by me in College :o)

I either saw you or your evil (good?!) twin at Lollapalooza. Did you go or was it just a case of duality manifesting itself in the form of the Chosen One among the sweaty masses?

(cont'd from below, again. sorry.)

So anyway. Long story short, I think Feist has been inspired by music from older folk traditions, both North American and around world, but she is also intensely unique, creative, and above all, willing to try new things. I hope that never changes. My four and a half cents!

Now, the third show was after The Reminder's release. It was held at a large auditorium. Cushy seats, and replete with ushers escorting people to their assigned spots with flashlights. Another great local artist opened (Chad Van Gaalen), but the venue was fairly packed to see Feist. The audience was very quiet while she performed every song. She also had a lot of fun anecdotes to share about growing up in the city, and performing on the same stage as a kid.

This show was totally magic, with crisp sound, and nobody talking on their cellphones. It felt like you were steeping in her music. One of the girls I went with actually confessed to being moved to tears twice. I hadn't heard The Reminder at all until I saw this show, and it blew me away--the previous performance's "weird" minimal looping experiments had been transformed into really lush, powerful songs.

(oh geez, more above)

Loved the comment you left on Feist's "When I Was A Young Girl" :) Very thoughtful... I wondered the same thing about how her music can sound familiar even if it's difficult to place, or categorize.

I've seen her perform three times in our mutual hometown; Calgary. The first show was great; this was after Let It Die was released.

The second gig was really minimal, a bit strange even. Pre-iPod commercial, I believe. The crowd didn't really dig the show, partly because it was standing-only with music that made you want to sit (or nap). The beer garden was in the same area, and some of the audience was only there for Jason Collett... so of course, people were talking over her performance. Feist herself was playing with little backing from her band, instead doing a lot of acoustic tracks with looping pedal experimentation. The set was overly long, and I think even her biggest fans at the front seemed a bit bored.

(cont'd above)

Hello,

I noticed you were one of my listeners on thesixtyone, and was wondering if you’d vote for me for the Austin City Limits “Sound and the Fury” competition. It’s a chance for me to play on one of the main stages during the Austin City Limits festival, which would be awesome! I really only need a few hundred votes to be considered in the top 100, and you can vote once a day until voting closes to the public on the 22nd of August. Make sure you confirm your vote as well when you get emailed back from the contest. Voting is free and your vote would mean an awful lot to me!

Things are good. Chillaxin' here in K-town for the summer "working on my thesis." (Translation: playing a lot of PS3)

I don't think I'll ever be matching the hours I spent here back at the start. It was inhuman.

You finished at Mac, or another year?
